Surprise Concussion Lands Ward on the IR

A bit of a shocker in the news department, as the Carolina Hurricanes have placed goaltender Cam Ward on the Injured Reserve on Wednesday morning, citing a concussion being the issue.

The coaching staff could not place where the 31-year old keeper suffered the head injury, but saw the team doctor on Tuesday, complaining of some issues and the diagnosis had come down.  As of right now, there is no timetable on any sort of return to action, but he will definitely be going through the league protocol, which should keep him out at least a week, likely from Tuesday and the team will likely get a better idea of what to expect then.

Ward has appeared in 32 games this season, winning 14 games and posting 1 shutout for 30 points on the year, which has him ranked 102nd in overall pool scoring, 20th among all goalies in the pool this year.

This is going to be tough news to swallow for Neil, especially if this news drags on later and later into the rest of the year.  Neil's team is 4th in the standings, 2 points out of the money and his goaltending has been a very steady stream of points for his team and now that's cut in half.  His goalies rank 11th in the pool in scoring with 57 points, thus far.

On the flip side, Wes, who snagged Eddie Lack in the Waiver Draft, will immediately get a few more starts, which should help his team stay out of the basement and possibly help him move up in the standings, even if it is just a little bit.  Wes' team sits in 25th, 20 points clear of 26th and 2 points back of 24th, so there could be some movement.
