On Thursday afternoon, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they had re-signed forward Sven Baertschi, inking him to a 2-year deal, worth $3.7 million over the duration, a $1.85 million cap hit per season.By the hockey pool standards from the previous season, Baertschi is considered to be a player worthy of a selection, even if is late in the draft. At the end of the 2016 season, the 24-year old finished 295th overall in pool scoring, 203rd among forwards with 15 goals and 28 points in 69 games with the Canucks.
There was some chemistry being found in the lineup between Baertschi and some of the other young players in the team's lineup and there is some upside to him being in the Canucks lineup full-time, but he will have to find a little bit more consistency.
Vancouver got a decent cap number out of this deal for Baertschi and the team still has a little bit of flexibility, with 18 projected players already penciled into their lineup and a couple of other tags against the cap, worth $61.2 million.
