Handing Out Camp Invites (Sep 20)

The Colorado Avalanche released their training camp roster, with their camp opening up on Thursday, with players not at the World Cup set to report.  Among those heading to camp are tryout invites forward Jiri Tlusty and goaltenders Nathan Lieuwen & Kent Simpson.  The Avalanche already had forwards Rene Bourque and Gabriel Bourque accounted for ahead of camp, as they have a good number of players in Toronto for the preseason tournament.

Tlusty is the most interesting case, as the 28-year old has been a pool worthy player in the past, but his 2016 season was very limited, playing 30 games with the Devils, picking up 4 points.  The Avalanche have a real youth movement on the go, but checking out some seasoned veterans in camp could add a much-needed dimension to this team and there are a couple of spots open on the roster.

In one of the late roster releases, the Anaheim Ducks gave out their training camp roster, which will also open this weekend and there are a few interesting tryouts given there, as forwards David Booth & Sean Bergenheim and back-up goalie Yann Danis will all attend.

Both Booth and Bergenheim have some reasonable shots at a roster spot, since there are six or seven spots left to go on their top 13 and a good battle can go a long ways here.  Of course, the Ducks would certainly prefer to have their own homegrown depth step up and take those spots, but they are in a window where they need to win now.  Anything can happen.
