Panthers' Smith on IR for a Concussion

The Florida Panthers have officially placed forward Reilly Smith on the Injured Reserve on Thursday, retroactive to the 22nd, with a concussion.

Some of the early indications were that the symptoms were minimal and that he could be ready for New Year's Eve, when the Panthers are in Dallas for the last game of the 2016 calendar year.  Smith would have only been eligible to rejoin the lineup, as of today, thanks to the league's concussion protocol, but it sounds unlikely that he'll be ready for tonight's game against Montreal and the Dallas game may still be in doubt.

Smith hasn't been nearly has dominating on the scoresheet for the Panthers as his trend line may have suggested, leading up to this season, but 15 points in 35 games isn't anything to necessarily sneeze at, still good enough for 233rd in pool scoring.

Brenda & Seward are on the doorstep of the money spots in the standings and they are awaiting the word on this injury now.  Going into Thursday, they were in pretty good shape, sitting 5th, 5 points out of the money and already having a good week, with 10 points.  This injury won't sink the duo, but they might not be nearly as hot until Smith returns.
