Sabres' O'Reilly Has Appendectomy

The appendectomies have been popping up here and there, from time-to-time, and another dropped on the NHL, just before the season got started from the Christmas break. Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly is back on the shelf after going under the knife and he'll be on the shelf for a little while.

The last player to go under was Chicago's Corey Crawford, who finally returned to the Blackhawks lineup after missing 10 games, but that's just a guideline and it will certainly depend on how the schedule plays out for the Sabres, but it will likely be close.

In 27 games this season, the power forward has 7 goals and 18 points, but his season has been mired in inconsistency, more about his health, than anything, which has led to some poor production.  O'Reilly still ranks 163rd in pool scoring, but it should be much better than that.

Since joining the Sabres, he has missed 18 games (and counting) to injury and before that, he was thought to be a very durable player.  If this sort of thing is to continue, he could worm his way onto the injury prone list.

This is a significant blow to Dale B.'s overall chances at the money, as his team currently sits in 7th place, 11 points out of the money, beginning Wednesday's action.  The quicker O'Reilly can come back, the better, I'm sure.
