Goalie Announcements (Jan 3)

Only one of the two survival games turned out positively in the pool, as Mike's win from Jake Allen at the Winter Classic was the only result worth mentioning today.

Tonight isn't a very busy night on the schedule, which is strange for a Tuesday, but we still have seven games on the docket.  At first glance, there are only a couple of possible survival games, as Stacey M.'s two goalies have the chance to play, but it only looks like one will get the start.  Both John S. and Troy don't have any options tonight, so this week starts to get a little more interesting.

Tonight was supposed to be about the superstar defensemen traded for one another, but since only one of them is playing tonight, we'll make it about the goalies (we were going to anyways).  Pekka Rinne makes the Montreal/Nashville game into a survival game, as Stacey M. will get her chance to move on to Week Fourteen tonight with her Predators keeper, but the test will be enormous in Benson's number one goalie, Carey Price.  This is turning out to be Stacey's only chance for money this season, but it won't be very easy.

Anders Nilsson will make his 12th appearance of the season tonight for the Buffalo Sabres, likely to the delight of Ryan's proxy team, who has already seen 12 points from the Buffalo back-up.  The Rangers are likely to go with Grant's number one goalie at home tonight, Henrik Lundqvist.

Brian's team will get the first of two starts tonight, trying to pad his lead in the overall standings, from Cam Ward and the Carolina Hurricanes, with the New Jersey Devils in town.  The Devils are playing on back-to-back nights to start the calendar year and they are not going to be afraid to go with Cory Schneider for both nights.  Stuart gets another start after his goalie earned a shutout the night before.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to keep that winning streak going and there is a fine chance of that on Tuesday night with the Edmonton Oilers in town.  Sergei Bobrovsky gets the nod for the Jackets again, looking to pad his lead in the overall scoring race on Mike's team.  Tasked with trying to stop the streak will be Marcie's goalie, Cam Talbot, who once stood atop the pool rankings himself, but has since taken a tumble of his own.

Fresh off his win in the Centennial Classic, Frederik Andersen should get the nod for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night, when the team heads to Washington to take on Braden Holtby and the Washington Capitals.  Andersen will be Brian's second start of the night, Holtby will be Jeremy's only start of the night.

Ryan gets a second start tonight, as Andrei Vasilevskiy will get the nod for the Tampa Bay Lightning, with the Winnipeg Jets in town.  Tony gets the other start in this match-up, with Connor Hellebuyck tapped for the visitor's net.  Ryan is the closer of the two to the money, 23 points back, as of the start of Tuesday night's action.

The Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks will conclude a home-and-home series, where the Kings snuck out a win in the first half, at home, but it could be a much different story at the shark tank.  We are expecting another all-Wes outing again, as it should be Peter Budaj against Martin Jones, since the first half was played back on Saturday night.
