Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Feb 9)

The news on Travis Konecny was not good for the Philadelphia Flyers, as the rookie suffered a sprained ankle and it appears that he will be missing the next 4-to-6 weeks with the injury. That should wipe out the better part of the last third of the season for him, but if the Flyers are still in a playoff spot by the time he comes back, he will be well rested for that last little stretch.

Konecny's injury comes a couple days too late for the last Waiver Draft injury period, which doesn't help Clayton at all.  Getting out of the bottom half looks to be a tall order for his team, especially with the long-term injury.

On Tuesday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning, already without Ondrej Palat, were also without forward Alex Killorn, thanks to an undisclosed injury.  It looks like the Lightning, who are last in the Eastern Conference, are treating this injury like they're right in the mix.  Okay, they're five points out, but c'mon.  He's considered day-to-day right now, but that could change one way or the other, I'm sure.

Stacey M. pretty well only has the goalie survivor pool to worry about now, as her team is just below Clayton's and doesn't appear to be getting much better in the overall sense.  The loss of Killorn won't help.

A few notes from the Wild/Jets game on Tuesday night, as Winnipeg made Chris Thorburn into a healthy scratch with the return of Drew Stafford to the lineup.  Thorburn appears to be the odd-man out at the moment in their active lineup, as they want to keep the scoring happening in there.  Didn't help that game, losing 4-2, but they're trying.  The last note was the loss of goalie Ondrej Pavelec, who suffered a lower-body injury early in the 2nd period, after already surrendering three goals.  Pavelec didn't practice on Wednesday and it seems unlikely that he'll dress on Friday night, with the Blackhawks in town.  He's day-to-day right now, but further evaluation is likely needed.

To summarize for the pool, Troy loses a goon to the press box, Benson gains a scoring winger back and Jeremy loses a Waiver Draft pick from last week.  Jeremy is hurt the most by this, as his team is in the mix for the overall money, while Troy takes a close second, trying to shake down the PIM pool.

Canucks forward Sven Baertschi did not come out of Tuesday night's game in Nashville scott-free, as the Swiss winger suffered a concussion from a hit from Cody McLeod in the game and that finished his night and the Canucks were quick to point out it was the dreaded head injury that ended his night.  Baertschi is still travelling with the team, but he should still be undergoing the concussion protocol, which will keep him out of the lineup for a week, minimum.

This is another pick from the second Waiver Draft taking a hit, this time it's on Wes' team.  Wes has had one of the hottest teams in the pool in the second segment and is off to an okay start this week, but this injury will certainly hinder his chances of moving up any faster.
