Off-Season Injury Notes (Apr 26)

It's that time of year, where players are undergoing surgery, in order to be healthy enough for training camp (or close to it) in September.  Tyler Seguin of the Stars underwent shoulder surgery this week and the team expects a full recovery in four months, which put him back in action around the end of August, beginning of September, lots of time before training camp.

Shoulder problems could explain some of the slightly down numbers in the 2017 season, where he wasn't in the top 10 in overall scoring.  The expectation is that he'll be back in fine form next season, so plan accordingly.

The news out of San Jose, just past their elimination from the playoffs by Edmonton, was that Joe Thornton played through damaged ligaments in his left knee and he underwent surgery this week as well to have those repaired.  The 37-year old forward is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in July and if he has the chance of playing at 100%, he will still be a very viable option for the hockey pool, no matter where he lands.

Thornton was only good for 7 goals and 50 points in 79 games this year, 94th among all forwards in scoring in the 2017 season.  We'll have to see where he ends up this Summer, before we make any official predicitions.
