The numbers don't exactly lie, Travis Hamonic wasn't quite a pool worthy defender in the 2017 season, but that isn't to say he won't be one in the 2018 season, assuming he can put a good year together in Calgary now.

The Flames acquired the veteran defenseman from Long Island on Saturday, giving up on three big picks, including a 1st round pick in the 2018 draft and a couple of 2nd round picks later on.

Hamonic has been pool worthy in seasons previous to the 2017 season, but three different injuries in the year limited his playing time significantly and he wasn't able to produce for the Islanders, as much as he normally would.

In the 2015 season, Hamonic finished with 5 goals and 33 points to be 46th among all defensemen in scoring that year, just to give you an idea of what he is capable of for us hockey poolies.

The soon-to-be 27-year old is handy at both ends of the ice and he should be a big fixture in the Flames' own end in front of their new number one goalie, Mike Smith, so things are coming together for Calgary and it could be a pretty big year for them, if this goes in the right direction.
