Backes Out Weeks

Well, let's prepare a new page in the digest of hockey ailments, as I think we can all safely say that we've never heard of anyone coming down with diverticulitis before.  For those med students that want more information, please click here.

After puck drop between the Bruins and the Predators, the news dropped that David Backes was suffering from the colon ailment and that he is now expected to miss the next 3-to-4 weeks to get better from this.

Last night was game number one for the Bruins and now it is expected that Backes won't be back until November, which could mean upwards of 10 games missed for the power forward and that's a serious hit to the numbers for Neil's team.  It doesn't mean he'll miss any more time this week, as the Bruins are done until Monday, but it means that there will be a fair amount of time missed until he can make his debut.

Last season, Backes had 38 points for the Bruins in 74 games, so it is a definite loss, in terms of production.
