Goalie Announcements (Nov 19)

There were a couple surprises to be had yesterday, some that my usual source for starting goalies, goaliepost.com, didn't really catch on with and so the tune is interesting on Sunday morning.

First, Los Angeles threw us a bit of a curveball and didn't start Jonathan Quick, opting for Darcy Kuemper against the Panthers at home.  And without a win from San Jose again last night, that means Chris was winless on Saturday and he's got one more shot at the win tonight.

Second, the Capitals, originally thought to be giving Braden Holtby the night off... didn't do that.  Holtby was in and he earned the win against Minnesota, qualifying Grant for next week with a big win.

So, now we've got two games, two last ditch efforts for Benson and Chris to qualify or else we'll have our first eliminations in a few weeks.

Jaroslav Halak (Benson) versus Cam Ward (Stacey M.)
The Islanders are in Carolina this afternoon in the first game of the day and it is expected that Jaroslav Halak is going to be the starter for the visitors, since they are on back-to-back afternoon games this weekend.  The Hurricanes are also playing on back-to-back days, so their backup will be getting a look today, as Cam Ward will get the nod for Stacey M., looking to spoil Benson's last chance at survival.

Jonathan Quick (Chris) versus Malcolm Subban (N/A)
Okay, since Kuemper got the start yesterday, it seems more than reasonable that Quick will get the Golden Knights, in Vegas, tonight.  This will indeed be Chris' last kick at the can and his goalie will get the return of Malcolm Subban to the Golden Knights crease, as he is finally returning from a lower-body injury that he suffered a few weeks ago.  Subban and the Knights are 2-0-0 together and it should make for a good game.
