Hedman Out Upwards of 6 Weeks

The news came down on Friday afternoon and as much as the news wasn't good on Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman, many people were fearing that the could have been much worse for the All-Star defender.

The injury suffered in the game against Calgary was indeed a knee injury and one that will sideline the 27-year old for anywhere between 3-to-6 weeks, which the blow is softened by the bye week, which the Lightning entered after the Flames game, giving the entire team some much-needed time off.

After Friday night's action, Hedman is the 3rd ranked defenseman in pool scoring, 76th in the overall standings (a 4th round pick), with 6 goals and 33 points in 44 games this season.  He trails only John Klingberg of the Stars and John Carlson of the Capitals in scoring among blueliners, but will certainly lose some ground in the competition (if there actually was one), as there are a number of defenders nipping at his heels already.

For Mike, this is a crushing blow to his pool team and maybe more so to his All-Star mini-game chances, as that was his only player heading to the mid-season classic.  Hedman likely wasn't going to be a huge scoring piece to this tournament, but you just never know, right?  You need a player to play to have a chance at getting your money back and now not having one is a guarantee for no money.  A damn shame, really.
