Shattenkirk Out Indefinitely With Knee Injury

Surgery to repair a torn meniscus in Kevin Shattenkirk's knee is a pretty huge blow to the New York Rangers, as they announced that the offensive blueliner will now be out indefinitely after the operation, which will happen on Monday.

The report quickly surfaced after the morning skate for the Rangers, which the 28-year old didn't attend, which was the cause of the original questions about his status.  There wasn't much more to the report, when and how the injury happened were not included, but it doesn't really seem to matter, now that we know he's out.

The season for Shattenkirk hasn't been all that great, having only 5 goals and 23 points in 46 games and he has a -14 plus/minus rating.

Troy was not getting the kind of return he would have been hoping for from his 3rd round pick (73rd overall), as Shattenkirk is ranked 209th overall in scoring, somewhat of a bust pick amid the rush for offensive defensemen in the early rounds of the draft.  Troy's team is 62 points out of the money and this injury could certainly put the last couple nails in the coffin for his season.
